![]() The two bring completely different games into play. Purdue hasn’t yet announced who will be their first-string quarterback against Missouri, as junior Elijah Sindelar and senior David Blough are fighting for the starting job. Luckily for the Tigers, it’s unknown who will be throwing passes Moore’s way. The Missouri defense will have to keep an eye on the freshman throughout Saturday’s contest. He’s a modern-day slot receiver that’s capable of using his speed (4.33 40-yard dash) to take over games through the air and on the ground. Moore was one of the more highly-regarded wide receivers in the Class of 2018, as the top-ranked Kentucky player was a four-star recruit and had offers from 33 Divison I colleges - including Alabama, Georgia, Ohio State and Missouri. ![]() ![]() Oh and by the way, he was born in the year 2000 and just turned 18 in June. Moore added a 53-yard run and three receptions against Eastern Michigan the following week. He had 313 all-purpose yards on 18 touches - 11 receptions for 109 yards and a touchdown two rushes for 79 yards and a touchdown ( including this 76-yarder) and 125 kick return yards. He announced his presence early in his college career, setting Purdue’s single-game all-purpose-yards record in the Boilermakers’ first game of the season against Northwestern. Odom’s talking about Purdue true freshman wide receiver Rondale Moore. “ looks like he’s on fast forward,” Missouri head coach Barry Odom said in a press conference Tuesday afternoon. They’re returning nine of 11 starters, and although the Boilermakers’ offense is an experienced group, a newcomer is making all the noise coming into their Week Three matchup with Missouri. Otherwise the Tigers will be staring at a 3-3 record heading into a tough homecoming game against Memphis.Purdue embarrassed Missouri’s defense last year, as the Boilermakers put up 28 of their 35 points in the first half alone. Moving forward, Mizzou is going to have to keep quarterbacks uncomfortable in the pocket. On Saturday night, the Tigers didn’t cover or pressure well and it showed in the statistics. If the pass rushers aren’t getting to the quarterback, the receivers will have a field day. If the defensive backs aren’t covering their guys, the quarterback will have a field day. With pass defense, everything works together. ![]() The Mizzou defense had six tackles for a loss, but only one sack - that’s simply not going to cut it moving forward. The Tigers were all around Blough during the game, but he was very elusive and often escaped pressure to complete passes for huge gains. When you’re breaking records at a school which produced Drew Brees, Kyle Orton, Curtis Painter and others, you’re doing something right.īased on what Blough did, can you even imagine what guys like Jake Fromm, Jake Bentley and Tua Tagovailoa might do to Missouri in the next few weeks? Where was the pressure? Most single-game passing yards allowed in Missouri history (previous: Kliff Kingsbury, 510) Most single-game passing yards in Purdue history (previous: Curtis Painter, 542) It was a historically bad night for the Tigers’ defense, as evidenced by these embarrassing stats: Blough averaged an impressive 10.4 yards per pass attempt, so really, the only question facing Purdue coach Jeff Brohm should be, “Why did you run it 16 times?” When you give up 572 yards through the air to a team that had lost to Eastern Michigan and Northwestern, you aren’t doing a good job. The Tigers snagged an interception, but they were torn apart by David Blough, who only played because Elijah Sindelar was injured. Where does Mizzou need to improve? Let us count the ways: Pass defense, anyone? If they don’t, losing all three of those upcoming games is not out of the question. With games against Georgia, at South Carolina and at Alabama coming up the next three weeks, the Tigers must do much better than they did against Purdue. So, yes, the Tigers are 3-0, but what can we expect moving forward? Let’s take a look at some areas where Mizzou needs to improve in a hurry heading into the toughest stretch of the schedule.
